Thad Jemison is in his second season as Kent State’s wide receivers coach after taking the position in January of 2011.
During the 2011 season, Kent State’s wide receiving corps collectively recorded 172 receptions for 1,745 yards and 11 touchdowns. Senior Chris Gilbert (27 catches, 399 yards) and junior Matt Hurdle (20 catches, 251 yards) each had breakout seasons.
Junior Tyshon Goode was named to Phil Steele’s All-Mid-American Conference Third Team. Goode turned in a pivotal performance against Eastern Michigan in 2011, setting a new season high for receiving yards (129) and recording a season-long 70-yard reception.
Jemison brought nearly 20 years of experience coaching at the high school level, while also providing instruction and mentoring to students with learning and/or physical disabilities. He spent the previous seven summers working closely with Darrell Hazell as the top wide receiver instructor at Ohio State’s football camps, in addition to participating in 2010 in the Buckeyes’ mentoring program with freshman football players.
Jemison played wide receiver for the Buckeyes from 1980-83, compiling 51 catches for 902 yards and four touchdowns, before being selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 1984 NFL Draft.
A native of Cincinnati, Jemison is a 2009 graduate of Ohio State.
